This public service announcement shows the deceptive dangers of novelty lighters. Novelty lighters look like toys, but they are not. Like any other lighter, they are very real, and they can be very dangerous, especially in the hands of children.
The Shingle Creek Regional Park offers a unique blend of nature and history in a setting quietly hidden within an urban area. More than 1,000 acres have been acquired at a cost of $11 million using a variety of grants and matching funds. In addition to support from numerous community partners, the Florida Communities Trust funded nearly 80 percent of the project through land acquisition, and the Florida Office of Greenways and Trails funded nearly half of the trail construction expenses.
Approximately 200 acres are accessible today, with plans to expand over the next five years to include additional hiking, biking and paddling opportunities. Seven historic structures will also be restored in coming years.
